Sorry this is a day late, but man yesterday was crazy! I mentioned before a bit on this amazing workshop I attended in San Diego Memorial Day Weekend. I wanted to share a little knowledge and photos from my experience. The workshop was hosted my Me Ra Koh Photography and Barefoot Memories by Carey Schumacher, two amazing photographers who are very successful and very giving of their knowledge in the photography world. Me Ra Koh focuses on wedding photography and Barefoot Memories is family portraits at a beach in San Diego (lucky her to have an ocean as a backdrop!). I learned some different techniques from both of them. This first set of pictures is from a photo session we did with moms and their babies and the use of window lighting for a natural light source. Before we started the session we discussed the use of positioning your subject, in the case the baby, by a window in such a way to obtain catch lighting in the eyes (it obtains the results like using a reflector but with out the hassle). You might have to reposition your subject a few times but look at this babies eyes with the catch light....adorable!
We also discussed the use of aperture and how to obtain amazing blur in photographs naturally (without the use of editing). I have had several photography classes but it always helps to re-educate yourself and hear things from different perspectives. In this photograph I focused on the oh so adorable swirl that only babies have on their head and had mom blurred in the background. I used a low aperture 1.4 and manually set my focus point on the babies swirl and wha la a beautiful photograph!
Here a few more of mom and baby:)
The second day we had a session using Carey's techniques on the beach with a family. I love the ocean so this was a wonderful day. The pictures I posted a few days ago of my children and their feet covered in sand is one of Carey's signature pictures and was lucky to have my family there to get some classic Barefoot Memories images but by me! Carey is really all about having fun and capturing joyful moments between families. I was able to take away allot of fun ideas to do during family sessions. Here are just a few shots I got at the beach.
